Abide in Jesus Christ

Abide in Jesus Christ (John15:5) 1/31/2014

5I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing.

Introduction:

  1. Although any body is a Christian, if he no God’s calling he shall not become a pastor. The pastors should have the proof of God’s calling in his heart. What is the proof of God’s calling? Shortly we can say that as our desiring to proclaim the Word of God to the church. In other words he should love the Scripture and preach the word of God to the church members. So Paul emphasized the you preach the word of God any seasons. If you have any desire to preach and teach the Word of God you have the calling of God.
  2. Our presbytery consisted of the men of God who God called for preaching. So they have equipped by godly characters, righteousness, godliness, faith love patience and humility in him. So if any pastor want to improve his ministry, first of all he should abide in Christ. Paul also emphasized the teaching in his ministry. En chritos (in Christ) is very important term to understand the Paul’s theology and his faith, Biblical faith.

For example,

How will we abide in Christ?

  1. We do not have to accept Christ again.
  1. Why? Already we live in Christ. It means to be ruled by the Lord by the grace of Holy Spirit. Because we stay in Christ we can not enter into the Christ. We should assure that I lives in the Lord Christ Jesus.
  2. Ex: A certain sister confessed that she invited Jesus one time everyday in her heart. It it alright? But she always is afraid of it. She had no true peace in her heart. Why? She has no assurance that depends on the Word of God. After she accept Jesus as her savior. One time eternally. She could enjoy her salvation in her heart.
  3. Where do you stay presently? Make sure that if we do not stay in Christ now accept

Jesus Christ as your savior.

  1. We have to devote ourselves to unite with Christ and His word.
  1. Jh 15:8 says “By this my Father is glorified, that you bear much fruit and so prove to be my disciples.

To abide in Christ means to abide in the Word of God or to be aided by the Word of God. it means to meditate the word of God in our heart. We should try to meditate it in our lives.

  1. Just like the psalmist of chapter 1 assure in his lives. We should be unnoted with the Word of God. then we can know that the wonderful communication, amazing koinonia in our lives through the work of Hoy Spirit. So we need to strong desire to read the Bible regularly.
  2. Just like Ezra did in the difficult age among chaos, we have to decide to read the word of God keep it and teach it to our church. Do you have such decision in your ministry? Then we can enjoy our ministry really among the tough field.
  1. We have to devote to ourselves to unite with His love.
  1. Already we reviewed the meaning God in Christ and in the Word of God, lastly we think of to abide in the love of God. For God is love if we accept God by believing Christ., we exactly stay in the God’s love, basically it means the experience o fullness of Holy Spirit. When we enjoy the love we can love our neighbors. So in our ministry we have to check up our heart with his love. To abide in God’s love is our beginning of every day every ministry any time any place.
  2. My presbytery should enjoy God’s love in their ministry. Let’s go to that place.

Conclusion:

  1. Our presbytery concentrate to abide in Christ, the Word of God, the Love of God in order to product much fruit.
  2. May the grace be with you through abiding in Christ every day.

Let’s pray:

The Assurance of Paul

The Assurance of Paul (Eph 1:15-23)

The Second Presbytery regular meeting (1/31/2014)

15For this reason, because I have heard of your faith in the Lord Jesus and your love toward all the saints, 16I do not cease to give thanks for you, remembering you in my prayers, 17that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give you a spirit of wisdom and of revelation in the knowledge of him, 18having the eyes of your hearts enlightened, that you may know what is the hope to which he has called you, what are the riches of his glorious inheritance in the saints, 19and what is the immeasurable greatness of his power toward us who believe, according to the working of his great might 20that he worked in Christ when he raised him from the dead and seated him at his right hand in the heavenly places, 21far above all rule and authority and power and dominion, and above every name that is named, not only in this age but also in, the one to come. 22And he put all things under his feet and gave him as head over all things to the church, 23which is his body, the fullness of him who fills all in all.

Greeting: I am glad to meet you again in the our regular presbytery meeting.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, we thank you for your wonderful love to us. Clean out dirty heart, unbelief, ungodliness, unrighteousness and unfaithfulness with the precious blood of Christ Jesus. Open our eyes to know and your truth. Especially Establish on the sound doctrine reformed theology and biblical teaching to glorify you and to enjoy you and your truth in our ministries. Lead us to the world of grace through this Word of God. I pray in the name of Jesus. Amen.

Introduction:

  1. First of all, we are thinking the assurance of the Apostle, Paul about his normal Christian life through his prayer for Ephesian church. As we know his prayer contents is the assurance of his proclaim and his theology and his faith for the church. Just like as Jesus prayed 6 titles to God the father in the John chapter 17, actually it reflected the ministry of Jesus, the redemption of Christ. His prayer is his purpose of his works. So we can assure that the prayer of Apostle is his assurance and his purpose of proclamation for the church. Basically we can find the wonderful assurance out of his prayer.
  2. We thank God for his guide of our presbytery, CBPCP for his glory and his eternal economy. Especially we thank our presbytery members for following the regulation of presbytery humbly. I want to exhort the assurance of Paul to CBPCP.

  1. We need to assure the hope of God’s calling.
  1. Verse 18 says ,”18having the eyes of your hearts enlightened, that you may know what is the hope to which he has called you, what are the riches of his glorious inheritance in the saints,

What is the hope of God’s calling? It is what God give us for blessed lives in the present and future ages. God called for us in order to provide the wonderful purpose, heavenly blessing, redemption and the detailed wonderful things for us, at the least, forgiveness, purpose, power and peace. In a short word God prepared everything in our lives. So the Christian always claim the eternal hope, living hope as Peter said, “ “ What it is important is to get the wonderful hope in the time of God’s calling personally. So we are Christians, we have to assure our treasure, the hope of God’s calling. If you are God’s calling already you have the eternal hope. Do you believe in it?

But many Christian ignore this hope in his actual life. Just like a dead person they despise his precious life, I cannot any things, I do not have any things. It is impossible. Always complain for his present situation. Especially we meet some sever suffering in our ministry; We have to assure this hope in it. Then God shall work in the situation through our faith. As Paul did in his assurance we have to make sure that in our heart.

In my case I am wondering in my life for my daughter’s depression for 2 years . Then I complain to God for this thing. In the last year I came back to my home in USA. During two days I observed my daughter in hospital. She stayed in the similar state in the hospital although my wife and two daughters helped her very sacrificially. I was frustrated of that. I thought that God does not want to go to Cambodia. I kept in silence. However at the third day she was changed obviously into good condition, she had good repose of my question. She has some peace. I realized that she got the big event in her thought. So last Christmas day my daughter can stay in the house two day with us. Our God sometimes works as the speed 10 miles per hours although he works his ministry as 100 miles per hour. I praise in God who have worked in his eternal plan. We need to assure of the hope of his calling.

  1. We need that assurance of abundant inheritance in Christ.
  1. In the verse 18 the Apostle prays “ 18having the eyes of your hearts enlightened, that you may know what is the hope to which he has called you, what are the riches of his glorious inheritance in the saints, “ He wanted that the church should take the assurance of inheritance, present blessing and eternal rewards , all your hopeful things shall be included in it. You have all resource in your life for God gave us the Holy Spirit to us. Actually the grace of Holy Spirit is the Abraham’s real blessing. Galatian 3:14 says, “so that in Christ Jesus the blessing of Abraham might come to the Gentiles, so that we might receive the promised Spirit through faith“.
  2. When we served the our churches we need many hangs for our successful ministry. But actually our present situation is very poor or miserable. Then we have to think that we have wonderful resource in our lives in Christ. Because we have received abundant resource in Christ.

In order to we get this resource in our lives we have to ask to God , seek to God and knock the door in the name of Jesus. In this time our presbytery should concentrate on the prayer and studying the Scripture. It is our mission in our presbytery.

  1. Finally we need to assure have the immeasurable power in us.

Paul prayed assurance of hope, assurance of inheritance and also he added to ask to know the power in Christ, the resurrected power, It means that he has use his power for establish his kingdom in the miserable wilderness. So verse 19 says “19and what is the immeasurable greatness of his power toward us who believe, according to the working of his great might 20that he worked in Christ when he raised him from the dead and seated him at his right hand in the heavenly places,

We have to give caution to this prayer. He did not too get three now but to make them known three things in the illumination of Holy Spirit.

Do you know that things in your heart? Already you got it. So you have to claim that things in Christ in your ministry. If our presbytery members can claim this things you can get wonderful miracle in your present situation. I believe in it. Why do we claim that hangs in our poor situation? Because God provided these things to the church be the merit of Christ.

Conclusion:

Our presbytery was established at Cambodia where is the center of East- South Asia in culture and geography, but have called for the one of killing field. Our presbytery has wonderful resource in Christ. In order to establish the kingdom of God in them. Our concern must be in the spiritual state of Cambodia church and people. Although the country was covered by green colors actually their inner state is the gray or, black because they fall down into the mixture religious stream. So we need to establish the assurance of the Apostle. We have the hop of God’s calling, the abundant inheritance and the immeasurably power in our heat.

My beloved presbytery pastors,

Do you have this assurance in your heart in your ministry? If the prayer of Apostle is the truth exactly we should assure that fact in our lives.

Let’s pray,

Lord we thank you for your wonderful grace make us assured three things , the hope of God’s calling, the abundant inheritance and immeasurable power. I pray n the name of Jesus. Amen.

Clear the Promised Land!

Clear the promised Land ! (Joshua 17:14-18)

2014/2/24 morning prayer meeting

The people of Joseph said to Joshua, “Why have you given us only one allotment and one portion for an inheritance? We are a numerous people, and the Lord has blessed us abundantly.” 15“If you are so numerous,” Joshua answered, “and if the hill country of Ephraim is too small for you, go up into the forest and clear land for yourselves there in the land of the Perizzites and Rephaites.” 16The people of Joseph replied, “The hill country is not enough for us, and all the Canaanites who live in the plain have chariots fitted with iron, both those in Beth Shan and its settlements and those in the Valley of Jezreel.”17But Joshua said to the tribes of Joseph—to Ephraim and Manasseh—“You are numerous and very powerful. You will have not only one allotment 18but the forested hill country as well. Clear it, and its farthest limits will be yours; though the Canaanites have chariots fitted with iron and though they are strong, you can drive them out.”

Telos:

Introduction:

1) It is not easy to occupy the land and to give them to 12 tribes. Although God promised to provide the land taken by fighting with the Canaanites, if they do not try to do the voluntary challenge and the absolute obedience and to keep the holiness after occupying the land, it shall be a bread on a picture. So, above of all, the settlement of Canaan needed to have the spirit of the pioneer. Actually to manage the allotted land to make it as a residence demanded to have the strong frontier spirit and the obvious decision.

2) The text shows us the principles of conquer by understanding the divine spirit of Joshua. As such Israel, the Christian is a pilgrim and a pioneer in his life. How did they clear up the land?

First, They should stand up firmly in front of the forest (17-18).

  1. According to verses 17-18 Joshua commanded to stand firm before the great mountain to the descendants of Joseph.17But Joshua said to the tribes of Joseph—to Ephraim and Manasseh—“You are numerous and very powerful. You will have not only one allotment 18but the forested hill country as well. Clear it, and its farthest limits will be yours;”

  2. First of all, Joshua show that they should stand up before the forest that they might clear it. This is the expression of their faith before God. Whenever we meet any problems, we have to challenge against that issue. Just like the people of great faith had done in their lives in the Scripture.

Ex: Zurubbabel stood up firm before the great mountain. Zechariah 4:6-7 says “Then he said to me, “This is the word of the Lord to Zerubbabel: Not by might, nor by power, but by my Spirit, says the Lord of hosts. 7Who are you, O great mountain? Before Zerubbabel you shall become a plain. And he shall bring forward the top stone amid shouts of ‘Grace, grace to it!’”

Ex: Peter concentrated on the lame who was sat on the place of the temple. (Acts3:4-6) 4And Peter directed his gaze at him, as did John, and said, “Look at us.” 5And he fixed his attention on them, expecting to receive something from them. 6But Peter said, “I have no silver and gold, but what I do have I give to you. In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, rise up and walk!” Peter stood up before the problem.

Ex: Joshua looked up the city Jericho to destroy it by the power of God.13When Joshua was by Jericho, he lifted up his eyes and looked, and behold, a man was standing before him with his drawn sword in his hand. And Joshua went to him and said to him, “Are you for us, or for our adversaries?”(Joshua 3:13) Joshua looked up the Canaan before he entered into the land.

2) In the chapter five of Ephesian, we can find the same experience. The Christian who abide in Christ should stand firm up in Christ. (Ephesian 6:13-14) “13Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand firm. 14Stand therefore, having fastened on the belt of truth, and having put on the breastplate of righteousness,” One who settles in Christ can stand firm up in Him and then he can walk toward another place. To stand before the problem clearly is very very important. Although we meet impossible problems we have to stand firm in front of the problems. This is the faith.

3) Our God permits some problems as such forest for us in order to make us grown toward imitate Christ’s image, those are, righteousness, mercy and faithfulness. Psalm 23:4 says “deep valley of death, “ the chaos of our enemy.” “4Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death,cI will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.”

And also we find the same experience in our personal life, in our school life and in our ministry.

4) What is the motive to occupy the mountain of Perith and Rbaim ? It was two problems before them.

(1) First motive is that they had small heritage. We should believe that our Lord works in the small thing and in a difficult issue. Ish. 57:14 Says 15For thus says the One who is high and lifted up,
who inhabits eternity, whose name is Holy:
“I dwell in the high and holy place,
and also with him who is of a contrite and lowly spirit,
to revive the spirit of the lowly,
and to revive the heart of the contrite.
“ “

Paul says “12I know how to be brought low, and I know how to abound. In any and every circumstance, I have learned the secret of facing plenty and hunger, abundance and need. 13I can do all things through him who strengthens me.”(Philiphian4:12-13) This is the principle of his success. If you have any worse situation and any weak points, do not worry about that. God prepared everything for you. At that time you can stand up firm before your problems.

(2) Moreover, the second motive is our enemy’s strong attack. Two primitive Canaanites tribes were very strong because they had iron chariot in that day. Historically their forefathers were the giant people. Ok of Basan was belonged to them. Their residence was the wide plain and the deep valley as a natural fortress. Then Joshua commanded that they themselves must attack the tribes. Although anybody took afraid the situation and fall down into frustration, they stand firm up before them with assurance. Strong attack made them to be more conviction.

– David took the wonderful victory against Goliath, a giant of the Palestine by trusting the almighty Lord. “ “

– Ex. As we know, look at the first vision of Zechariah that reveals the deep dark state. Zechariah saw the rider on the red horse in the myrtle tree forest in the deep valley. (1:8) What does it mean? The salvation of God comes out of depth, chaos, valley and the darkness.(it meas sins conviction and destruction) So the one who are saved by God’s grace should understand both sides of valley and plain, darkness and light.

May the boldness of God be with you consistently in your heart!

Second, we need to have not the passive attitude, but the active attitude

1) Verses 16 and 18 say “clear the land by themselves.” It means the stress of independence. Actually Adam lost true independent attitude after his committing sin before God. His automus destroyed him totaly. But The second Adam, Jesus Christ was crucified on the cross and restored us out of the sin, the automus beings into the new men by believing his merit. As we depend on Christ, finally we can independent truly in Christ. It means that we need active attitude to the work of God.

2) We have to take careful passive attitude to the work of the Lord. For example, “after 5 years I shall be a great believer.” “Although I am poor surely I shall become a rich man after 5 years.” etc. Satan love to put this thought to us. Although all positive thinking are not true faith, generally true faith shall be revealed as strong positive thought and faithful active attitude because God is their background in every things.

Do you have such active attitude in your school life and in your ministry?

  1. We have to take the proper insight (wisdom) to overcome the suffering .

  1. Verses 16-18 says “But Joshua said to the tribes of Joseph—to Ephraim and Manasseh—“You are numerous and very powerful. You will have not only one allotment 18but the forested hill country as well. Clear it, and its farthest limits will be yours; though the Canaanites have chariots fitted with iron and though they are strong, you can drive them out.”

  2. They have real wisdom that overcome the present suffering. This is the faith. Joshua exhorted them that they can overcome their enemies for themselves. Of course, God shall help them until occupying the land.

True faith products in the present problem, present suffering and present troubles by standing firm before God. We learn the truth about true faith to relate to the suffering.

  1. First of all, the true faith comes out of knowing the object of faith, God. The knowledge is depended on the Scripture. So we always search for the criteria of the Scripture, whenever we read the Scripture and meditate it in our heart.

  2. True faith was made of much examination through trial. So James teaches that as we meet several temptation in our lives, rejoice in Christ. James 1:3-4 says “Count it all joy, my brothers, when you meet trials of various kinds, 3for you know that the testing of your faith produces steadfastness. 4And let steadfastness have its full effect, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing. Why? Suffering makes training and perseverance and endurance in our lives. Finally we shall be changed into the image of God. We believe in it.

Conclusion:

  1. As we know, the symbolism of cleaning Canaanite land points the manage our heart in our Christian life. It means we have to grow up in the grace of Christ. As soon as their occupying work had finished they continuously manage the land to establish the will of God, the theocracy, the kingdom of God. Although they failed to erect it in Canaan, the eternal will of God could not be changed , rather, through the process of their failure the original purpose was appeared obviously in history. Finally the kingdom of God was fulfilled in Christ Jesus.

  2. So all Christians should stand up before the forest of his problem and have the active attitude and the proper wisdom in his heart. In our Christian life we devote ourselves to clear our redemptive grace to glorify God, then we can be changed into the image of God, righteousness, mercy and faithfulness.

The Reality of Occupying Canaan

The Reality of Occupying Canaan ( Joshua 14:6-15)

6Then the people of Judah came to Joshua at Gilgal. And Caleb the son of Jephunneh the Kenizzite said to him, “You know what the Lord said to Moses the man of God in Kadesh-barnea concerning you and me. 7I was forty years old when Moses the servant of the Lord sent me from Kadesh-barnea to spy out the land, and I brought him word again as it was in my heart. 8But my brothers who went up with me made the heart of the people melt; yet I wholly followed the Lord my God. 9And Moses swore on that day, saying, ‘Surely the land on which your foot has trodden shall be an inheritance for you and your children forever, because you have wholly followed the Lord my God.’ 10And now, behold, the Lord has kept me alive, just as he said, these forty-five years since the time that the Lord spoke this word to Moses, while Israel walked in the wilderness. And now, behold, I am this day eighty-five years old. 11I am still as strong today as I was in the day that Moses sent me; my strength now is as my strength was then, for war and for going and coming. 12So now give me this hill country of which the Lord spoke on that day, for you heard on that day how the Anakim were there, with great fortified cities. It may be that the Lord will be with me, and I shall drive them out just as the Lord said.”

13Then Joshua blessed him, and he gave Hebron to Caleb the son of Jephunneh for an inheritance. 14Therefore Hebron became the inheritance of Caleb the son of Jephunneh the Kenizzite to this day, because he wholly followed the Lord, the God of Israel. 15Now the name of Hebron formerly was Kiriath-arba.a (Arbab was the greatest man among the Anakim.) And the land had rest from war.

Introduction

  1. We think some truth that relates between the occupying Canaan and the birth of Christ or, the presence of Christ. The reason that I compare two each other is to understand the reality of occupying Canaan. What do you think of it?

In fact the occupying Canaan was accomplished by the purpose of Christ’s coming. (Matthew 1:21), the salvation of his own people in the view of redemptive history.

  1. The occupying Canaan points the reality of redemption, the forgiveness of sins, Immanuel and the assurance of mission. In such meaning we enjoy the reality of Canaan in the Christian life. And also we have to expect to experience the wonderful grace in our present life. Actually it is the experimentalof Roman 8: Theat Paul tasted in his life. “ I am more than conqueres” or, the abundant life of God’s love. Do you enjoy this grace oin your life?

  1. It is to have the assurance of forgiveness of Sins.(10)

  1. Verse says “ “ What do you find in the event of Canaan’s warfare? Why did God want to kill the all tribes of Canaan? I our God, Jehovah so cruel without giving some mercy to poor man? It is like the conquer as the cruel dictator, Jingiskan who was a leader of Mongolian country. His occupying method is to demolish his enemies and his family completely. The method were used by Assyria in history. God’s command was worse than the dictator’s one. Israel should demolish the all Canaan tribes. What does it mean? We need the right interpretation of that event. It means that God treat the sins. “the debt of sins is the death.” The event reveals the true reality to his people. So We can understand one of the reality of occupying Canaan, that is the forgiveness of sins.

  2. Actually we can enjoy the assurance of forgiveness of sins by confessing our actual conviction. I Jn 1:9 says “ “ 1:7 “ “ according to these passages John had enjoyed the abundant grace of the forgiveness of sins. This is the one of the Canaan’s reality. What is your worst trouble in your life? It is the sins issue. We have to occupy the issue by the power of God. Although the sin is very strong very miserable in our lives we believe that Jesus Christ solved the issue by his death. We got the freedom out of every sins. So we can enjoy his permana nt forgiveness in our lives.
  3. Ex: How can the adultery woman got the forgiveness of his shameful sins in her life? “ I am not condemn you. Do not commit sins.” How could Jesus say such things ? because he can do solve every sins that is the essence of the man’s problems. And also because he accomplished every sins of his own people as his death of cross. Now our Lord proclaims to us, “ I do not condemn you becausr I am the absolute offering of atonement for you. Aready God accepted the price of his death as precious blood. We believe in it.

  4. Example: Today many people struggle their quilty feeling in their lives. Oice in the inner part. The quilty makes us to be worse in our lives. Althoug we tried to repay the byrden of conscience by our good behaviore and our good things, we can not calm down the little small voice. Then we should trust on the absolute merit to clean up our sins. Why? Only the merit of Christ can clean up our sins because God accepted his death as absolute substitutive offering for us. So we can believe that after we confessed our sins to od by faith we can say , “Thank God for your merit of Christ. We can praise the Lord because of the merit power of Christ death. This is the reality of occupying Canaan .

  1. It is to have the assurance of Immanuel.(12)

  1. Second reality of Canaan occupying ismust be the experience of Immanuel. Actially Immanuel means the reality of fullness of Holy Spirit and the presence of living God.

  2. When we think of the event of Canaan battle we can find the main cause of victory in it. What is it? It is the Immanuel. Actually Immanuel our redemption. What is your ultimate goal in your life? to glorify od and to enjoy God is the purpose of our redemption as well as the means of the redemption. The ultimate goal of our ministry shall be Immanuel that means to be with God, the union state with the Lord.

  3. To eat the milk and the honey is important to us, but more important to enjoy Immanuel, the reality of Canaan by the obeying the Word of God and praising the Lord in our Christian life.

  4. It is very easy to tends to accomplish some things in the ambidia ministry rapidly. But we have to concentrate on sustain the state of Immanuel in our ministry in order to build the will of God.

  1. It is to have the assurance of the mission.

  1. The last reality of Canaan conquering is the assurance of mission. Basically Canaan was the destruction land by the serious sins of 7 tribes, idotary and adultery. Then God drove them out the outside, bestowed them to his own people as the blessing land that points the sanctuary to fellowship between God and is people, that is the main climax state of covenant. In the new testament it is the state in Christ. What is the real Canaan? It is the state in Christ. And also what is the reality of Canaan? It is to obey the great command of the Lord, Jesus Christ.

  2. Mt28:18-19 says “ “ and also ITim2:2 says” “

From two passages we can summarized two kinds, evangelism and education t make disciple in the all nations. This is the purpose of church in the world. When the church concentrate on this one hzhe can enjoy the reality of Canaan in the chistian life. In Cambiodia we can enjoy the reality of Canaan, although we meet much suffering in our lives.

Do you enjoy conquring Canaan in your life? How do you enjoy the real canaan in your life? When we live in the Cambodia Pesonally I enjoy the natural stuation in Cambodia in my trip I love that But I love the rea Cannaan in Christ. If I do not know this things my life shall be empty.

Do not you think so?

Conclusion:

In history Israel did not enjoy the reality of Canaan in their tomes. They did not understand the reality of Canaan until Christ came on the earth. Today we stay in the same case. O we should concentrate on the reality of Canaan in our school life. What are they? The reality of Canaan are remission, Immanuel and mission.

Let us enjoy the abundant grace in our lives.

Who Is the Commander of Israelite military?

Who is the commander of Israelite military? ( Joshua 5:13-15)

Now when Joshua was near Jericho, he looked up and saw a man standing in front of him with a drawn sword in his hand. Joshua went up to him and asked, “Are you for us or for our enemies?”14“Neither,” he replied, “but as commander of the army of the Lord I have now come.” Then Joshua fell face down to the ground in reverence, and asked him, “What message does my Lord have for his servant?”15The commander of the Lord’s army replied, “Take off your sandals, for the place where you are standing is holy.” And Joshua did so.

Introduction

  1. The Scripture focuses on Christ, who is the Lord of redemption of his own people. Furthermore the Old Testament points on Christ, as the creator of all redemption, the source of our salvation. Through studying O.T. we find lots of symbolism and types of Christ, Christ executed to accomplish the economy of God, which established with beginning. Among them the chief of the military of Israel in Joshua. Who was the chief of the military? We can observe that following questions can provide these important answers to us.

First, what prove the fact to be Christ?

1) The passage reveals the fact, as the incarnated Christ.

(1) He led Joshua, who took charge to occupy Canaan by standing before him and commanding how to occupy them. Only The Lord can lead his servants in order to accomplish the economy of God. Joshua should obey his command because he was the pre-incarnated Christ.

(2) He was worshiped by Joshua, because he was the Christ, who took the same authority of Jehovah. Then Joshua bowed down him because he was God as the angel of the Lord.

– The context proves the reason, as soon as the word of the chief of military revealed at once. The Lord revealed towards the warfare of Jehovah. Why the commander change into the Lord? Two terms are interchangeable identification. In a word, the commander must be the Lord.

(Joshua 6:1-4) Now Jericho was shut up inside and outside because of the people of Israel. None went out, and none came in. 2And the Lord said to Joshua, “See, I have given Jericho into your hand, with its king and mighty men of valor. 3You shall march around the city, all the men of war going around the city once. Thus shall you do for six days. 4Seven priests shall bear seven trumpets of rams’ horns before the ark. On the seventh day you shall march around the city seven times, and the priests shall blow the trumpets.

Who is our commander ? Jesus Christ who died on the cross and rose out . He command us “ go to all nation to make disciple and teach his word and make them to keepthe word in the world.” of death. Is our commande r. Mt 28: 18 says “And Jesus came and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them inb the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.” “ We are his company his military whh should follow his command in the world. So we today obey his command faithfully. In studying bible English and ministry relationship. This is our privillage.

Second, What did the chief command to Joshua exists?

As the authority of Moses, Joshua should take off his shoes on the earth, the promised holy land, Canaan, which points the heaven or, the state of fulness of Holy Spirit. The holy thing should be accomplished by the holy persons who was saved out of his sins. Joshua is the type of Christ.

Verse 15 said “ The commander of the Lord’s army replied, “ Take off your sandals, for the place where you are standing is holy.” In a word The commander made Joshua be holy. Holiness of the land was the purpose of his activities. When the leader was holy, he could accomplish the purpose of God towards His own people, Israel. Now our Lord, our Joshua, Jesus Christ works in his people’s holiness by the work of Holy Spirit. Repentance and faith to the word of the God is primary ministry of Holy Spirit in us for holiness shall be stage of God’s redemptive ministry.

In our school life is lke a sever spiritual warfare. The primary mission that we have to keep is to keep ourselves to be holy. What does it mean? Holiness means to live the separated life out of the wordly thinking, mind, attitude, direction and methodology. Do you keep the holiness in your actual life? Do n’t you knoe struggle to the real life in your school life? Especially we have to keep himself in the world. “ “ We have to caution to the stimulated sins in the youth day. Basically the Scripture respect the godly relationship between the male and the female. ( godly marriage life godly intimacy) but Satan tempt us in the aspect of the beautiful life toward the secular seat. Although any temptation attack to us any time any place we should keep ourselves by God’s wisdom as Joseph did. Genesis says “ “. How could Joseph overcome the temptation? Because he know the positive method to escape the place. In this time if you concentrate to the reading the Word of God, and praying to God to get some grace, you can get the power to overcome the temptation. Keep yur holiness because Jesus Christ made us to be holy. (I Corinthian 3:16) we are a temple.

Third, What is the role of the commander to occupy Canaan?

It’s role was to encourage his people, to keep the fear of the Lord after occupying the city. The pre-incarnated Christ was appeared among the Israelite. It means that his appearance accompanied the presence of God’s glory. His action suggests the military of God’s people. It is the type of Christ. Jesus as the only mediator between God and his people died on the cross in the replace of his people to lift up to the heavenly state. So we believe that His death is my death. Kis resurrection my resurrection and his ascendance my ascendance. (Ephesian 2:4-7) But God, being rich in mercy, because of the great love with which he loved us, 5even when we were dead in our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ—by grace you have been saved— 6and raised us up with him and seated us with him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus, 7so that in the coming ages he might show the immeasurable riches of his grace in kindness toward us in Christ Jesus.

Paul confessed that “ I was crucified with Christ. “ (Gal2:20) I have been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me. And the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.

Their wonderful position of the revelation was drawn in the text, that is, the event to occupy the city, Jericho. How did the revelation reveal to us? There are elements.

(1) His work is very simple. Whenever obey his command can occupy the city. Their positive action was obedience, as a child followed his parent’s command. So Jesus evangelized that only the person who was like a child with obeying heart and humble heart can enter into the heaven. To priick can not be accepted by God. Israel obeyed and followed according to Joshua’s direction.

Today we should follow Jesus direction in any situation, by the teaching of the Scripture.

(2) His work was centered of the word of the Lord, which the ark of covenant points. When they turned arrived at Jericho, they should follow the Ark, which means the presence of God and the Word of God.

  1. One day one time they should turn around the city Jericho. Seventh day seven times they should turn around Jericho. And they should shout out with one voice “ shout! For the Lord has given you the city!” However this is the attitude of their faith to the covenant, because God gives the city to them, they could claim that this is our property, God’s property.

(3) They should follow the direction of God. To keep, to think, to work the promised land and the arranged property. They should accept that the city and It’s possession was offered to God. So Israel should not use the military possession by themselves. The commander focuses to destroy the city Jericho the first city of Canaan as well as to keep to thank in the life of the people. Jesus Christ, our only gracious mediator accomplished these two mission as the economy of God. Joshua, the type of Jesus accomplished his command incompletely. As such events, the redemptive work of Jesus were revealed the wonderful theme repeatedly to us.

In our school life we follow to the Lord Jesus Christ. How? By faith we can follow him. It means that we have to accept his merit in our lives and to claim that by faith and repentance. We assure that Our Joshua accomplish the salvation for us 2010 years ago. Do you believe it ?

Conclusion:

The commander of military was the pre-incarnated Christ. He revealed before Joshua, as type of Christ revealed the redemptive execution of the economy of God and also He revealed obviously the ride, the attitude and the methodology of redemption to his people. We, as one of the predestination people, should learn the methodology and the goal and serve him in the world.
