The Wonderful Present for the Church

The wonderful present for the church (Ephesian 4: 11-12)

11 So Christ himself gave the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, the pastors and teachers,12 to equip his people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up13 until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God and become mature, attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ.

Introduction:

  1. What is the church? It is his beloved assembly that the Lord has wanted to build up on the earth. “ I will build my church on them.” So we are the church who the Lord concentrates on in the earth. You are very happy for we are his church. Because he loves us so much he gave us wonderful present.

  2. The verse 11 says, “11 So Christ himself gave the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, the pastors and teachers, “ God gave four the wonderful presents to us. What are they? Here are 5 position gifts apostle, prophets, evangelist and the pastor and teacher. Do you know them in your christian life?

  3. After the Scriptures was accomplished, the Apostles, the prophets, the evangelists were finished, So we believe that the Scriptures includes these gifts.

Only the pastor and the teacher was remained in the church.

Actually the only gift is the Pastor –teacher or, the teacher- pastor.

This church received the wonderful gift out of the Lord, Jesus Christ.

According to the Word of God, what is the pastor?

First, he is the preacher. (IITim4:22 Preach the word; be prepared in season and out of season; correct, rebuke and encourage—with great patience and careful instruction.)

  • His first mission is to preach the word of God

  • He is the specialist of the Scripture.

  • He is the standard of the church, example.

  • We have to listen to the Word of God and obey his message in our lives.

  • This is the main method that we serve to the living God.

Second, the teacher (Eph.4:11) 11 So Christ himself gave the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, the pastors and teachers,

  • And also he is the teacher who teach the word of God to his people regularly (Mt 28:19-2019 Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,20 and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”)

  • Making disciples by teaching ministry is his another ministry.

  • The church exists to obey the great command of our head Jesus Christ.

  • The pastor should devote himself to teach the Scripture to his church.

Third, the shepherd– Jn21:16

The pastor preaches and teaches and takes care of the church as the shepherd did to his sheep. “ supervise my sheep” 16 Again Jesus said, “Simon son of John, do you love me?”He answered, “Yes, Lord, you know that I love you.”Jesus said, “Take care of my sheep.”

  • So the pastor is the elder.

  • The mission of the elder is to take care of church.

= In summary, the pastor has three elements in the church. So they have to have the consciousness of the treasure. (obedience) humility, responsibility. And also the church should obey his command faithfully.

Conclusion:

  1. This church should thank to God for your faithful pastor Timothy.

  2. Keep the mission of church for his great command in the areas by obeying the direction of the pastor .
